Over the reviewed period, the value of agricultural production in the countryside around Ho Chi Minh city has improved. The city has issued various policies with regard to developing urban agriculture and has mobilized investment resources of over 61 trillion VND.  The rural economic structure has been developed toward high-technology with large, centralized production areas. People’s living standards have improved and poverty rate has declined. From now to 2015 and towards vision to 2020, the City will uphold its targets to sustainably modernize the countryside, obtain a yearly average growth rate of 5%, and complete 19 new rural criteria targets in 56 rural communes. The City will focus on outlets for farm produce, upgrade the infrastructure for health and education services, and organize vocational training for rural laborers.
