During his trip to the US to attend the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79). Mr. Lam on Monday visited and delivered a policy speech at Columbia University in New York. He said: “With its new position and strength, Vietnam is determined to effectively implement its external policies in the new era and contribute proactively and positively to global politics, economy, and human civilization."

Vietnam will join hands with international friends and partners to solve urgent global challenges such as climate change, food security, health security, and water security and promote the building of a fair and equal international order, based on the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, said Mr. Lam.

Regarding the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, he affirmed that in order to build a better future for all, it is necessary to emphasise and uphold the spirit of reconciliation, and mutual respect and understanding, with the respect for each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political systems.

“Vietnam clearly identifies that the US is one of its most important partners. I strongly believe in the bright future of the Vietnam-US relationship. My country’s experience shows that if we have the goodwill to enhance mutual understanding, respect each other's legitimate interests, and listen to each other, we will promote a culture of dialogue and no problem cannot be resolved. Vietnam has good relations with China, the United States, and many other countries in the world,” said Mr. Lam.

He affirmed that Vietnam is ready for a new historical start in a new era, stating that it will continue to concertedly and comprehensively promote the renewal process, boosting the country's rapid and sustainable development based on economic and social development, and environmental protection as the centre, Party building as the key, cultural development as the foundation, ensuring national defence and security and promoting foreign affairs as essential and regular task with the spirit of self-reliance, self-confidence, and national pride.
