(VOVWORLD) - Many countries on Tuesday strongly condemned Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip, which killed more than 400 Palestinians.
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit called the attacks "an inhumane act," accusing Israeli leaders of jeopardizing the lives of hostages and civilians for political gain.
Egypt and Qatar condemned the airstrikes as a blatant ceasefire violation that threatens regional security and stability. Saudi Arabia strongly condemned the targeting of civilian areas by Israeli forces. Turkey denounced the attacks as a continuation of Israel's genocidal policy against the Palestinians, warned of dire consequences for the Middle East, and urged for international action to ensure a ceasefire and humanitarian aid.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for the ceasefire to be respected, for unimpeded humanitarian assistance to be reestablished and for the remaining hostages to be released unconditionally.
China expressed deep concern and urged all parties to prevent further escalation and a worse humanitarian crisis in Gaza. EU Aid Commissioner Hadja Lahbib described the situation as “devastating for civilians”, and called for an immediate end to the violence.
