The complex is a place of worship for King Ngo Quyen, the national hero who led the army and people to the victory at Bach Dang in 938, ushering in a long era of independence and self-reliance for the Vietnamese nation. Tu Luong Xam was Ngo Quyen's chosen base of operations during the resistance against the Southern Han army.
This year's festival will last four days, from Monday to Thursday (from the 14th to 17th day of the first lunar month of the Year of the Horse).
Nguyen Khanh Chi, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Dong Hai Ward and Vice Chairwoman of the Festival’s Organizing Committee, said, “This is the first year the festival is organized under the two-tiered local government model. With a proactiveness, responsibility, and the coordinated involvement of the entire political system, all basic conditions have been met for the opening ceremony on March 3 to proceed solemnly and in accordance with traditional regulations.”
The traditional Tu Luong Xam Festival was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2022. The Tu Luong Xam complex was honored as a Special National Monument in 2025.
