Iran ready to help Iraq fight Islamic State

(VOVworld) – Iran is ready to help Iraq fight Islamic State militants, pledged Iranian Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri on Monday during talks in Tehran with Iraqi Vice President and former premier Nuri al-Maliki. Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB quoted Jahangiri as saying that in the face of terrorism, it’s necessary to use all means, adding that Iran is ready to place all of its resources at Iraq's disposal.  Jahangiri called for wider cooperation and coordination to stop the growing danger of the Islamic State.

To help Iraq counter IS offensives in June, Iran supplied Iraqi Kurds with weapons and sent military advisers to Baghdad.

Iran refused to join the US-led international coalition against IS because it considered air strikes insufficient.
