Khmer culture celebrated in An Giang cow racing festival

(VOVWORLD) -64 pairs of cows from localities inhabited by the Khmer people competed at the 29th Bay Nui Cow Racing Festival for the An Giang Television Cup 2024 on Sunday in Tinh Bien town, the Mekong delta province of An Giang.

The festival marked Sene Dolta (grandparents worship ceremony) of the southern Khmer ethnic people, featuring the unique culture of the Bay Nui An Giang region, contributing to preserving cultural identity, forging national solidarity, and entertaining people at home and abroad.

Nguyen Xuan Bang, Director of An Giang Radio and Television Station, Head of the Organizing Committee of this year's festival, said: “The Bay Nui Cow Racing Festival is a unique agricultural festival format of the Khmer people in the Bay Nui An Giang region. It is held during the Sene Dolta festival of the southern Khmer people and imbued with wet rice agriculture. It shows the traditional beauty of the Khmer people."

The Bay Nui Cow Racing Festival was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2016.
