(VOVWORLD) -Multiple Middle Eastern countries called for a ceasefire in Lebanon.

Iran will not deploy forces to Lebanon or Gaza to confront Israel, its foreign ministry said Monday. Spokesman Nasser Kanani said Lebanon and fighters in the Palestinian territories “have the capability and strength to defend themselves against the aggression.”

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said Monday that the United Nations General Assembly should authorize the use of force if the UN Security Council fails to stop Israel's attacks in Gaza and Lebanon. Erdogan urged Muslim countries to take economic, diplomatic, and political measures against Israel to pressure it into accepting a ceasefire.

Syrian Foreign Minister Bassam Al-Sabbagh on Monday condemned Israel’s “large-scale aggression that is pushing the region to the brink of a dangerous escalation and confrontation, with unpredictable consequences,” and called on all UN member states to make efforts to end Israel’s aggression against Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon.

Closing the General Debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly on Monday, General Assembly President Philemon Yang called on Israel, Hamas, and Hezbollah to conclude a ceasefire. He called on all those with influence on the parties to demand an immediate ceasefire and dialogue to "give peace a chance."
