(VOVworld) - The General Statistics Office (GSO) will begin its mid-term population and housing census on Tuesday. This is the first time the GSO has conducted a census between two primary population censuses. It will collect information on population and housing to serve the evaluation process of socio-economic development during 2011-2015 and prepare for the national population and housing plan from 2016 to 2020. This will be the foundation for Vietnam’s economic and social targets by 2020 as well as criteria for Millennium Development Goal (MDG) implementation. The GSO will use the mid-term population and housing data for analysis and forecasting and specialized economic research. Nguyen Bich Lam, Head of the GSO, said: This is a huge population and housing census with a 5% sample of household - 1.12 million households in all 63 provinces and cities - and a 20% sample of localities - 37 thousand localities. The survey will be conducted in both rural and urban areas. It will be similar to the general population and housing census in terms of content, scope, and object. All problems have been anticipated and prepared for to ensure accurate results.
