National archives on Hanoi liberation introduced

(VOVWORLD) - The national archives on the liberation of the capital city were inaugurated by the National Archives Center III, Department of State Records and Archives, at a ceremony in Hanoi on Tuesday, part of the 70th celebration of Hanoi’s Liberation Day on October 10.

From August 1954 to September 1954, after the Geneva Accords were signed, the Government held multiple meetings on implementing the agreement. On September 12, 1954, the Government Council decided on the organization of the capital takeover and establishment of the Hanoi Administrative Committee by the City Military Commission.

On the morning of October 10, 1954, Army units led by the City Military Commission and the 308th Battalion led by Major General Vuong Thua Vu, Commander of the Hanoi Front, launched an operation to liberate the capital.

Nguyen Thi Nga, Deputy Director of the State Records and Archives Department of Vietnam, said that the The 200 archive documents and images of the day of liberating the capital allow us to relive those glorious moments, the historic moments when the Vietnamese nation gained independence and liberated the capital.

“The documents take us back 70 years when Hanoi’s people joyfully welcomed the first moments of being in control of their own destiny and entered a new period of socialist construction. These important documents will contribute to the education of the younger generation about Vietnamese patriotism and Vietnam’s heroic history,”  said Nga.

Also introduced at the event were documents about musicians Van Cao, Huy Du, and Nguyen Duc Toan, who were famous for their songs about Hanoi, are preserved at National Archives Center III. These documents and photos will be on display at an exhibit called "Hanoi – Memories of Liberation" scheduled to open on October 2, 2024, in Trang Tien Street.
