New French PM is appointed

(VOVWORLD) -French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday appointed Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu to be France’s new prime minister. Lecornu, 39, is Macron’s 7th Prime Minister, and the 5th since Macron began his second presidential term.

Born in 1986, Mr Lecornu is a young politician with an impressive record of political experience.

France’s new Prime Minister has been tasked by the President with engaging political parties and forming a new government in the coming days.

The immediate priority for Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu and his team is to swiftly finalize the 2026 budget bill and submit it to Parliament for approval, in order to help steer the country back to stability following recent political turmoil.
