(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has commended Mua A Thi, a village chief in the northern province of Dien Bien, for his bravery and swift actions in rescuing his villagers during a devastating flash flood.

In his letter on Monday, the Prime Minister wrote that village chief Mua A Thi braved danger, alerted villagers, and helped elderly people and children evacuate to a safe place, as flash flood and landslide raged in Hang Pu Xi hamlet, Xa Dung commune, Dien Bien province on August 1. Thanks to his timely, wise, and resolute actions, the entire village of Hang Pu Xi, home to 90 people, was spared from tragic consequences, the PM said.
He asked the Chairperson of the Dien Bien People’s Committee and the Minister of Home Affairs to propose an appropriate commendation for Mua A Thi. PM Chinh also called on citizens to strengthen their disaster preparedness, stay calm and decisive in emergency situations, and support one another through adversity to recovery.
