PM inspects typhoon Yagi's impact, issues urgent recovery directives

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Quang Ninh and Hai Phong on Sunday to assess the damage caused by typhoon Yagi and direct measures to overcome consequences caused by the storm.

In Quang Ninh, the Prime Minister visited affected residents and encouraged the Army, Police, youth volunteers, and workers who are cleaning up the environment after the storm.

He acknowledged the severe losses endured by the government and people of Quang Ninh and expressed hope that the province would quickly recover.
At a conference on typhoon Yagi recovery in Hanoi the same day, Prime Minister Chinh announced an immediate relief package of approximately 4 million USD for both Quang Ninh and Hai Phong to assist in the recovery efforts.
During his meeting with the leaders of Quang Ninh province, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stressed the importance of swiftly stabilizing the situation and restoring normalcy.
He emphasized the need for immediate actions, including rescuing the injured, searching for missing persons, and arranging funerals for the victims. The Prime Minister also called for proactive preparations to deal with future storms, floods, and landslides. He urged Quang Ninh province to mobilize the entire political system to overcome the aftermath of the storm, particularly accelerating cleanup and environmental sanitation.
The Prime Minister asked the Ministry of National Defense to deploy military forces from nearby provinces and cities to assist in the recovery efforts.
He also requested EVN Group to restore power supply and VNPT and Viettel to reestablish communication services in the coming days. Financial institutions were tasked with exploring options for loan support, payment deferrals, and debt restructuring to aid people and businesses in resuming production.
Authorities were also asked to consider tax exemptions, reductions, and deferrals to ease the burden on the affected communities. The transport sector was urged to expedite the repair of landslide and subsidence areas to ensure smooth traffic flow.
The Prime Minister said key priorities included ensuring public security, restoring livelihoods, and reviving the economy. He visited Quang Ninh General Hospital, where he offered gifts and encouragement to patients injured by the storm.
Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh visited Nam Dinh province to oversee the recovery efforts. He urged local authorities to allocate resources and equipment to quickly address the damage caused by typhoon Yagi.
According to the Department of Search and Rescue under the Ministry of National Defense, as of 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, typhoon Yagi had claimed 14 lives and left 220 injured.
The storm caused significant property damage, sinking or stranding 38 ships in coastal Quang Ninh, damaging over 740 houses, and destroying 2 schools. Additionally, more than 5,700 trees were uprooted, and over 9,000 hectares of rice and crops were devastated.
