Russia says US’s sanctions target Russian people

(VOVWORLD) - The Russian ambassador to the US said Wednesday that the US sanctions against Sberbank and Alfabank, two of Russia’s largest banks, are “a direct blow to the Russian population and ordinary citizens”.

Tass news agency cited Anatoly Antonov as saying that by imposing new sanctions, Washington continues to damage the global economy.

It undermines the possibilities of foreign partners for mutually beneficial cooperation with Russia. It leaves foreign business without the income necessary in the current period of economic turbulence, the ambassador added.

The same day , different sources revealed that the European Union were unable to adopt new sanctions on Russia proposed by the European Commission, because of technical problems that need to be resolved, including a question on whether a ban on coal imports from Russia would affect existing contracts or not.
