Russia to turn the Far East into socio-economic center

(VOVworld) – Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia’s top priority now is to turn the Far East region into one of its socio-economic centers.

At the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russia, on Saturday, President Putin said the recent positive changes in the Far East provide momentum for Moscow to set the target. He said in order to successfully integrate into the world economy, it is essential to be uninfluenced by politics or unilateral pressure but based on equality, and respect for mutual benefits and national interests.
South Korean President Park Geun-hye and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also showed their agreement with Russia’s plan to develop the Far East region and to boost cooperation with Eastern countries including Japan and South Korea. Mr. Shinzo Abe proposed that Russia’s Far East region be a gateway, connecting the Asia-Europe economic region and the Pacific. Meanwhile, the Russian President called for the establishment of a common digitized economy space and integration of Asia-Pacific countries.
