(VOVworld) – World leaders have exerted efforts to defuse the crisis in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a telephone call with his French counterpart Francois Hollande on Friday, said that the Ukrainian interim government has to immediately halt violence and bloodshed and commenced direct dialogues with representatives of the southeastern separatists.
In a telephone call with US Secretary of State John Kerry, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov asked Washington to urge the Kiev interim government to stop military intervention on the southeastern region and open national dialogue, take into consideration the interests of all sides and the Geneva statement on April 17 and the OSCE initiated roadmap.
OSCE President and Swiss President Didier Burkhalter told newly elected Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko his concern over the worsening security situation in Ukraine’s eastern region.
