This is the first research project in Vietnam to use satellite data in conjunction with machine learning and Google’s cloud computing to improve the effectiveness of water quality monitoring. It was conducted  by the Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC) and Poland’s Institute of Geophysics

VNSC’s Deputy Director General, Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, said: "We will expand the scope of research to all coastal regions of Vietnam. Each region is unique, so we will adjust our calculations, based on the same foundation and research framework, to get the most accurate and relevant results. Our goal is to establish a comprehensive seawater quality monitoring system, which can provide critical data for planning and issue timely warnings of water pollution and impacts on aquaculture and other marine economic activities."

Known for their scenic quality, ecological value, the Ha Long Bay and Cua Luc Bay play a critical role in Quang Ninh’s economic and tourism development.
