SEA Games 33: Vietnam stays strong among top three in medal standings

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnamese athletics continued to boost the national delegation’s medal tally at the 33rd SEA Games by winning two more gold medals on Monday and reaffirming its role as one of Vietnam’s main gold medal sources.

Quach Thi Lan claimed gold in the women’s 400m hurdles, while Nguyen Trung Cuong dominated the men’s 3,000m steeplechase to secure another top podium finish. Vietnam also collected silver and bronze in the men’s 400m hurdles, won by Nguyen Duc Son and Le Quoc Huy.

Wushu and athletics accounted for all five gold medals. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy opened the day for Vietnam by winning the women’s 60kg sanda (Sanshou) title, followed by Truong Van Chuong, who claimed gold in the men’s 70kg sanda division.
Vietnamese football team secures a place in the final after late goals from Le Van Thuan and Thanh Nhan sealed a 2–0 victory over the Philippines in the men’s football semifinals. Vietnam will face either Thailand or Malaysia in the final on December 18.
After the sixth day of competition, the Vietnamese sports delegation maintains the third place in the overall medal tally, with 40 gold medals, 47 silver medals, and 70 bronze medals.
