A local chapter of the South Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration hoisted the flags along a road in Paju city, north of Seoul. The flags bearing a blue silhouette of the Korean Peninsula on a white background symbolize Koreans' wish for reconciliation and reunification. South Gyeongsang Province, Gwangju City, Baengnyeong, Yeonpyeong, and three other islands near the maritime border with North Korea hoisted flags depicting the Korean Peninsula to demonstrate their wish for the summit's success.

On Friday, the day of the talks, a coalition of 24 civic groups from Goyang plans to form a human chain of 200 people, each bearing a Unification Flag, around the Kintex exhibition hall in the city near Seoul, where the press center for the summit will be set up. The coalition's aim is to show their wish for peace and reunification.
