(VOVWORLD) -The Sudanese Rapid Support Forces (RSF) agreed to a 24-hour ceasefire with the Sudanese Arm Forces (SAF), effective Wednesday at 6 PM after days of bloody fighting.

“We confirm our full commitment to a complete ceasefire, and we hope the other party will abide by a ceasefire according to the announced time,” the RSF said in a statement.
The two sides previously announced their commitment to a 24-hour ceasefire on Tuesday, but continued to clash in Khartoum. Khartoum’s residents reported hearing gun-fire and explosions in several areas, particularly near army bases and the Presidential Palace.
Clashes between RSF and SAF since last Saturday have killed at least 270 people and forced thousands to flee Khartoum. Those hiding in their home are struggling to leave the city as resources dwindle.
The international community is urging both sides to halt the violence.
