(VOVworld) – On Sunday Turkish police temporarily blocked access to the Incirlik air base used by NATO forces in Adana, southeast Turkey, due to fears of a new coup attempt.

The daily Hurriyet newspaper reported that the Incirlik base was blockaded and inspected by some 7,000 armed anti-terror police and armored vehicles.
Incirlik is operated by NATO to join forces with the US-led coalition to carry out airstrikes against IS targets in Syria and Iraq. After the military coup on July 15, Turkey halted its operation and cut off power to the air base, fearing that fighter jets there might be seized by coup forces. But just a day later, the air base was put into operation again to serve the US-led coalition’s airstrikes but under the strict monitor of the Turkish government.
