Ukrainians reach new cease-fire

(VOVworld) – The Ukrainian government and the opposition agreed on a new cease-fire in eastern Ukraine which will take effect next Tuesday.

Kiev promises to pull out its heavy weapons from combat zones, if the opposition respects the agreement.

Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko said the new cease-fire agreement was based on the peace deal signed in Minsk in September. Kiev will begin to withdraw its heavy weapons from combat zones in eastern Ukraine next Wednesday, if the opposition abides by the ceasefire. Andrey Purgin, President of the self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Donetsk has confirmed the cease-fire.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called on the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to put more efforts into resolving Ukraine’s crisis. Addressing an OSCE summit in Basel, Lavrov said a greater issue underlying the Ukraine crisis is the need to rebuild trust and reconciliation between European countries.
