UN expresses concern over US’s withdrawal from WHO, Paris Climate Agreement

(VOVWORLD) -UN agencies responded on Tuesday to President Trump’s executive orders ending both US membership of the World Health Organization (WHO) and its adherence to the Paris Climate Agreement, highlighting the massive potential negative impact on public health and efforts to curb global warming.

The WHO said it regrets the announcement that the US intends to withdraw from the Organization. The WHO hopes the US will reconsider, said WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic.

From the UN World Meteorological Organization, spokesperson Clare Nullis reacted to President Trump’s vow to quit the universally adopted 2015 Paris Agreement, saying that the need for all countries to respect the accord was “pretty obvious”, given that 2024 was the hottest year on record.

COP30 President Andre Correa do Lago said there is no doubt that it will have a significant impact on the preparation of the COP. The US is an essential player because it is not only the largest economy, but also one of the largest emitters, and also one of the countries that has provided solutions, with technology.

Brazilian President Lula da Silva on Tuesday said they will hold a historic COP30 for a fairer and more sustainable future for our planet. He reiterated Brazil's commitment to reducing deforestation in the Amazon, the world's "green lungs", while pursuing the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
