During the talks in New York, UNCTAD chief Rebecca Grynspan thanked Vietnam for agreeing to host the 16th UNCTAD Ministerial Conference this year, highlighting Vietnam's transformation through trade as an inspiration. The G77 members welcomed Vietnam as the host country and expressing confidence in the Conference's success.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Vietnam’s Permanent Representative to the UN, said that for Vietnam, the future of international trade depends on three critical factors: strengthening international cooperation, opposing protectionism, and promoting a fair and multilateral trading system, so that all countries, particularly developing ones, can benefit from a more balanced and prosperous global trading framework. Ambassador Giang expressed gratitude for the support Vietnam has received in its role as host of the 16th UNCTAD Ministerial Conference.

Held every four years, UNCTAD is the highest-level forum on trade and development organized by the UN. It serves as a platform for its 195 member countries to assess trade and development issues and formulate global policy responses.

The 16th UNCTAD Conference is scheduled to take place in Quang Ninh in October, with an anticipated attendance of 1,200 to 2,000 delegates.
