US and Chinese military leaders hold video call to stabilize ties

(VOVWORLD) - The United States and China held theatre-level commander talks on Tuesday, in which both sides had an in depth exchange of views on issues of common concern, the Chinese defense ministry said in a readout.

Admiral Sam Paparo of the US Indo-Pacific Command and Wu Yanan of China's Southern Theater Command had a video call based on an agreement made by the US and Chinese leaders during last year's meeting in San Francisco.

The call followed a meeting in Beijing last month between US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Chinese leader Xi Jinping's leading military adviser, at which the talks were agreed to.

Most two-way military contacts between the US and China were suspended for almost two years after Nancy Pelosi, then speaker of the US House of Representatives, visited China’s Taiwan in August 2022.
