US delays tariff increases on imported furniture

(VOVWORLD) -US President Donald Trump has delayed new 30% tariff increases on upholstered furniture and 50% tariffs on kitchen cabinets, and vanities for a year, until January 1, 2027, according to a White House statement.

"Given the ongoing productive negotiations regarding the imports of wood products, the President is delaying the tariff increase to allow for further negotiations to occur with other countries," the statement said. The decision came amid rising living costs for Americans.

In September, Trump ordered 25% new tariffs on kitchen cabinets and upholstered furniture. Those took effect in October, with rates slated to rise to 50% and 30%, respectively, by 2026.

A decision by the Supreme Court on the legality of President Donald Trump's “reciprocal” tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act is expected to be issued soon.
