PM Chinh made the remarks while receiving Randeep Sarai, Canada’s Secretary of State for International Development, in Hanoi. The PM urged both sides to boost economic, trade, and investment cooperation, making it a key pillar of bilateral ties.
He also called for efforts to promote new growth drivers, including cooperation in science, technology and innovation, climate action, green and renewable energy transition, infrastructure and logistics, as well as cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
Mr. Chinh urged Canada to increase scholarships for Vietnamese students, especially in key technology sectors, consider recognizing the Vietnamese community as an ethnic minority, and adopt more open visa policies for Vietnamese citizens.
He said Vietnam is ready to help Canada expand its presence in the region and strengthen cooperation with ASEAN, while hoping Canada would support Vietnam’s participation in cooperation frameworks it engages in. He also called on Canada to continue backing ASEAN’s stance on free trade and the peaceful settlement of disputes in line with international law.
Secretary Sarai said Canada is ready to work with Vietnam on climate action, infrastructure, energy transition, critical minerals, and investment in made-in-Vietnam products for export.
