The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs said it will continue to effectively implement the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction in the 2021-2025 period. Efforts should be made to improve institutions, mechanisms and policies and mobilize more resources for poverty reduction.

Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung said:“First, the whole political system must step in. The people’s determination to improve their lives themselves is the most important factor. The State not only provides financial or material support, but issues unconditional support policies and gives conditional loans to people to improve themselves.”

“Second, we focus on a few core issues: people's livelihood, jobs, elimination of all temporary houses for poor households. I remember 74 poor districts have about 300,000 houses of the poor. By 2025, poor households will have decent, sustainable houses to live in, clean water and hygienic water, and the problems of child malnutrition will be basically resolved, among others,” Dung added.

In January last year, the Prime Minister approved the National Targeted Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction in the 2021-2025 period, aiming to reduce poverty in a multi-dimensional, inclusive and sustainable manner, limit poverty relapse and emerging poverty; support the poor and poor households to rise to the minimum standard of living, access basic social services, improve the quality of life; support extremely poor districts and communes in coastal areas and islands to get rid of extreme difficulties.
