Professor Phan Trong Lan, Director of the Preventive Health Department of the Health Ministry, said the patient was detected and isolated immediately after entering Vietnam. The patient is being treated using the Health Ministry's regimen in a separate section. 165 passengers on the flight with the patient have been quarantined in line with regulations.
This is the first imported Omicron case in Vietnam, who has been isolated upon arrival and posed no risk of community infection.
Professor Lan said that Vietnam has activated a monitoring system of unusual COVID-19 cases, such as rapid infection and severe, abnormal health conditions, and transferred their tests to Pasteur Institutes for sequencing the genome of the Omicron variant.
