Colonel Nguyen Viet Hung, Commander of the Vietnamese peacekeeping force at the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), introduced Vietnam's struggles for national independence and national construction and defense over the past 79 years.

He said the thousands-year history of national construction and defense and President Ho Chi Minh's Declaration of Independence 79 years ago have proved that peace does not only mean the absence of conflict but also the presence of justice, development and hope. This belief has motivated Vietnamese officers and soldiers to work tirelessly and always commit to working with international partners to assure stability and security in difficult areas, Hung said.

The Acting Head of Mission and Force Commander of UNISFA Major General Robert Yaw Affram sent congratulations to the Vietnamese peacekeeping forces in particular and to Vietnam in general. He expressed his belief that with solidarity and unity, the Vietnamese peacekeepers will better implement its mission of keeping peace and improving the lives of the community.
