Vietnam’s key leaders meet visiting Singaporean PM

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam values Singapore as a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and also as a key partner working side by side with Vietnam in its development and international integration, Party General Secretary To Lam told Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who is on an official visit to Vietnam.

At their meeting in Hanoi on Wednesday, Mr. Lam suggested that the two sides soon continue to concretize their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership through the signing of the Action Program for the 2025-2030 period. The General Secretary also voiced his support for the proposal on cooperating with Singapore in green energy and the green power grid in the region.

For his part, Prime Minister Wong agreed with General Secretary To Lam’s proposal on the strategic orientations for bilateral cooperation, especially effectively implementing existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms and establishing new mechanisms suitable to the level of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; boosting economic cooperation, creating new momentum for development, and fostering labor cooperation and people-to-people exchange.

President Luong Cuong met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in Hanoi on Wednesday. The two leaders appreciated the outstanding achievements of cooperation in all areas  and agreed that Vietnam and Singapore should fully tap their cooperative potential, with their economies being complementary to each other.

The two sides said they will continue to strengthen political trust, increase high-level visits and contacts, people-to-people exchanges, and business connections. The two countries will further deepened defense and security cooperation; increase information exchange and assessments of regional and global situations; and cooperate in responding to traditional and non-traditional security challenges.

They stressed the need to effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms to create breakthroughs in new areas of cooperation within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The two leaders agreed that Vietnam and Singapore share common views and visions on regional and world issues.

On Wednesday afternoon, during a meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that the two countries’ National Assemblies are coordinating and effectively implementing the Cooperation Agreement between the two legislatures (signed in May 2022) as well as the common perception between the two sides during Chairman Man's visit to Singapore in December 2024.

The two countries' legislatures will regularly consult and support each other at international and regional inter-parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), Mr. Man said.

Prime Minister Wong said Singapore attaches importance to and wishes to strengthen and deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam in all areas, including cooperation between the two legislative bodies.
