WHO talks with Pfizer to soon distribute COVID-19 vaccine globally

(VOVWORLD) - The World Health Organization is in talks with Pfizer to include its COVID-19 vaccine as part of an early global roll out, Reuters quoted a senior official of WHO as saying on Tuesday.

Bruce Aylward, WHO senior adviser, said that he saw a “strong commitment” on the part of its CEO Albert Bourla to set prices at levels appropriate to poorer populations. He expected some news on more manufacturers joining the list of providers to the COVAX vaccine facility in coming weeks, he added.

WHO and the Global Vaccine Alliance (GAVI) are calling on donors to contribute to the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, a groundbreaking global collaboration to accelerate development, production, and equitable access to COVID-19 tests, treatments, and vaccines. This mechanism currently lacks 4.3 billion USD in emergency operating capital and 23.9 billion USD in 2021.
