(VOVworld)- The Committee for Revising the 1992 Constitution held a workshop on local administration as stipulated in the revised 1992 Constitution. In his address, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, Head of the Committee, highlighted the importance of revisions to the 1992 Constitution, which matched Vietnam’s socio-economic development and national defense situation and international integration. He stressed the need to take a closer look at different views regarding the revisions: Local administration is one of the most important issues in the constitutional amendments because it is a part of the state apparatus, which has been organized in different ways. Now changes in the country require appropriate amendments to local administration organization. We have to decide whether our administration operates by the mechanism of democratic concentration or concentrated democracy.

During the workshop, delegates agreed on the need to revise regulations on local administration stipulated in the 1992 Constitution. They stressed the need to define the nature, function, tasks and responsibility of these institutions. Summary of the discussions will be submitted to the next meetings of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee and National Assembly.
