Tran Ngoc Nam, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Planning and Investment, announced the news on Tuesday.

Mr. Nam said this year Hanoi has licensed 616 new FDI projects with total registered capital of more than 5 billion USD, 35% of which were in real estate, followed by processing and manufacturing, information and communications, and construction.

Japan is the leading foreign investor in Hanoi, followed by Singapore and South Korea, Mr. Nam said.

“More than 200,000 businesses are operating in Hanoi. In recent years, the number of enterprises has increased between 10% and 13%. This has boosted the overall economy and encouraged Hanoi to improve its investment environment,” he said.
