(VOVWORLD) - Hundreds of children across Vietnam participated in the 4th Nightingale Melody Contest themed “I love my homeland”, organized by the Voice of Vietnam. The biannual contest, which closed in Hanoi in May, promotes singing and introduces new children’s songs to the public.

(VOVWORLD) - Ten top Vietnamese documentaries including several award winners, are being screened at the on-going 10th European-Vietnamese Documentary Film Festival 2019 that opened last Friday in Hanoi and HCMC. The films are on a variety of topics, from 20th-century Vietnamese patriot Phan Chau Trinh to the tragic battle against cancer waged by a young girl living in a rural area.

(VOVWORLD) - The Ho Chi Minh trail, a military supply route running from North Vietnam through Laos and Cambodia to South Vietnam, was opened in 1959. Until the end of the Ho Chi Minh campaign that led to Vietnam’s reunification in 1975, VOV war correspondents accompanied soldiers along the trail, reporting the events they witnessed. Meanwhile, VOV radio broadcasts furnished the soldiers’ “food for thought” and connected them with the world outside the jungles during those years of hardship.

(VOVWORLD) - 16 classical dramas and 7 folk operas were staged last week at the National Classical Drama and Folk Opera Festival 2019 in the north-central province of Thanh Hoa. 11 troupes joined the annual event, which promotes traditional opera while giving professional artists an opportunity to meet and collaborate.

(VOVWORLD) - In 1941, ‘Diary of a cricket’ was published for the first time and immediately aroused a strong interest in young readers. To Hoai’s cricket, who began hopping on the grass along Hanoi’s To Lich River, eventually crossed national borders to touch the hearts of children in China and 40 other countries.

(VOVWORLD) - Hanoi’s Me Tri commune is famous for its tradition of producing young sticky rice flakes called “Com” in Vietnamese. The craft was recently added to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s list of national intangible cultural heritages.

(VOVWORLD) - Many Vietnamese soldiers and young volunteers sacrificed their lives for the historic victory in the spring of 1975 that ended the war in Vietnam. The musical play “Truong Bon flower and fire” was written by Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen The Ky, President of VOV, as a tribute to the young volunteers who fell on the Truong Bon battlefield in Nghe An province.

(VOVWORLD) - In the world of Vietnamese literature, ethnic minority poets occupy a special place. In today’s program, VOV will introduce four Cham poets whose works in both Cham and Vietnamese have added richness to Vietnamese poetry.
