To date, the municipal police have collected more than 1,840 biological samples from relatives of fallen soldiers. More than 5,500 relatives have registered to participate in a new collection drive to be carried out this month.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Vu Vuong, Deputy Head of the Police Division for Administrative Management of Social Order in Ho Chi Minh City, said: “Every collected DNA sample represents hope and gratitude in the journey to identify our fallen heroes. We are committed to making every effort to fulfill this sacred mission.”

To speed up the process, the city is going to every alley and knocking on every door to verify information, locate relatives, and persuade them to provide DNA samples.

It plans to establish mobile teams to collect samples from people who are unable to leave their home.

In the coming months, the city will continue to search key areas. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, said: “In the spirit of ‘finding every possible set of remains, identifying every fallen soldier, and expressing our gratitude to them’, we will make every possible effort. This work, anticipating the 80th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day in 2027, reflects the responsibility all levels and sectors have to those who sacrificed their lives for the cause of national construction and defense.”

More than 7,000 biological samples have been transported from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, where agencies will conduct DNA testing to identify the fallen.
