In the early 20th century, Detroit became the center of car manufacturing in the United States, home to major companies. The introduction of mass production and the assembly line in Detroit revolutionized the way cars were built, making automobiles more affordable and accessible to people around the world.

"Detroit city or Michigan in general are well known for a number of reasons. Detroit's known as the Motor City, where we've got all the large automotive companies having their biggest foothold there," said Joe.

Major companies such as Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Chrysler built their foundations in the region, helping shape Detroit’s identity as a center of manufacturing and innovation. In recent years, the city has been undergoing significant revitalization. Many parts of Detroit have been redeveloped, bringing new businesses, restaurants, and cultural activities.

The city is increasingly seen as a safer and more attractive place to visit, as Joe explained: "We've got tons of lakes and beautiful countryside, and there's a lot of opportunity to do a bunch of stuff, but it's a very multicultural area. Detroit itself has been a city on the rise. It's been rebuilding itself for a number of years and is much safer and very pleasant to visit. There's just so much to do.  I definitely encourage anyone to come and visit Detroit and Michigan in general. And I think as you know, America is an interesting place in general, and I think we're pretty nice people when you get to know us, and friendly enough that everyone would be welcome."

Detroit is situated on the bank of the Detroit River across from the Canadian city of Windsor. This makes Detroit one of the few American cities that shares such a close connection with Canada. "Detroit's interesting because it's an international border city. We're right across the river from Canada, so we have a kind of a natural sense of international excitement," added Joe.

Sports are an important part of Detroit’s identity. The city is home to several major professional teams. Detroit also has a growing soccer community with its own football club. "In a way, our sports teams are really well regarded. We've got the Detroit Lions, our football team, and the Tigers, our baseball team, are playing really well. So if you're a sports fan, we've even got the Detroit Red Wings hockey team and the Detroit Pistons basketball team. And if you like soccer, or football as they say around the world, we've got a football club," said Joe.

Music is another key part of Detroit’s cultural influence. Detroit is the birthplace of Motown Records, founded by Berry Gordy. The label helped launch legendary artists such as Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross. Today, Detroit continues to support a lively music scene with many talented local artists and frequent live performances. "Even nowadays, the music scene is tremendous. We got a ton of amazing local artists that I know many people would have heard of, and there's always something happening. So the nightlife and entertainment is phenomenal," added Joe.

Outside the city, Michigan is known for its natural beauty. The state is famous for its large number of lakes, forests, and parks, providing many opportunities for outdoor activities such as boating, hiking, and camping. Northern Michigan is especially well known for its scenic landscapes.

"When you get out of the city and into the bigger part of the state, there's just beautiful lakes, forests, and parks. And we've got a beautiful upstate area with one of the most magnificent bridges, the Mackinac Bridge, and a beautiful island, Mackinac Island, which is famous for, you know, fudge, which is a delicious confection. And yeah, it's really a beautiful state, and there's a lot to do," said Joe.

Detroit and the state of Michigan offer a wonderful blend of lively city culture and stunning natural scenery. There’s always something to discover, from music and sports scenes to peaceful lakes, forests, and charming small towns. As Detroit continues to grow and reinvent itself, it remains an energetic and welcoming destination that leaves visitors with memorable experiences.
