Cultural industry serves as new growth driver for Da Nang

(VOVWORLD) - Cultural industries are expected to contribute more than 10% of Da Nang’s GRDP by 2030, according to the central city’s Resolution on Cultural Development for the 2026-2030 period with a vision to 2045. Da Nang will also become a cultural industry hub of Vietnam with competitive capacity in the region.

Located in the city center, the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture has become a major tourist attraction, especially popular with international tourists. The museum was renovated last year, giving the century-old landmark a fresh new look. Its redesigned garden, inspired by traditional Champa culture and the Apsara dance, provides a space that’s intricate and graceful.

“It's my first time to be at the 100-year-old museum. We admire the vision of the people that excavated it, found it and preserved it so that all of us can enjoy it and realize how advanced the civilization was so many centuries ago,” said Indian visitor Vinita Gulanikar.

The Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture and the Da Nang Museum welcomed a total of 560,000 visitors, 116% more than the previous year.

The Da Nang Museum at 42 Bach Dang Street, which reopened to the public last April, has seen a surge in visitor numbers thanks to its innovative displays and visually striking design. It became the first museum in Vietnam to use artificial intelligence in presentations which, along with 3D mapping technology and documentary films, significantly enhances interactivity and immersion for visitors.

“The museum has received a large number of international visitors, many of whom have expressed strong interest and admiration for the new exhibition space. International travel companies, particularly those organizing tours for Koreans, have conducted site surveys and shown keen interest. This is a very encouraging sign,” Director Huynh Dinh Quoc Thien said.

Da Nang is investing significantly in the development of its cultural sector. Numerous historical and cultural sites have been newly constructed, restored, or upgraded, including the Da Nang Museum, the City Memorial, and March 29 Park with a total investment of 53 million USD. Local authorities plan to build a 20 million USD cultural and cinema center capable of hosting large-scale political events, festivals, and conferences.

The organization of major events such as the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival and the Da Nang Asian Film Festival has helped create a distinctive cultural brand for the city.

Between 2017 and 2023, cultural industries contributed approximately 4.7% of Da Nang’s GRDP.

“We have developed a wide range of programs and will continue to implement breakthrough solutions to preserve and promote cultural values, contributing to the goal of turning Da Nang into a regional and international hub for major events by 2030,” Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, said.

Da Nang’s roadmap for becoming an ecological smart city and an innovation hub of the central region positions cultural industries as a pillar of development. Beyond their direct contribution to economic growth, cultural industries are expected to strengthen cultural identity, enhance competitiveness, and elevate the Da Nang brand.
