(VOVworld) – President Ho Chi Minh appealed for a nationwide patriotic emulation movement on June 11, 1948. Since then, emulation movements have been repeatedly used to generate practical results in national construction and defense.


President Ho Chi Minh said emulation and reward are driving forces for national development and important ways to promote people’s ability. They need to be used regularly. Over the last 66 years, Vietnam has organized many nationwide movements to create the enormous strength needed to win important victories.

Patriotic movements contributing to revolutionary targets

During the national resistance wars against the French and the American, Vietnam launched major emulation movements such as “Rice jar for the resistance war”, “Eliminating poverty, illiteracy, and invaders”, “Three readies for young people”, “Three responsibilities for women”, “Small age, big will”, and “Teach well, learn well”. These movements had a wide influence in society and encouraged people of all social strata to increase production and engage in the struggle for national independence and reunification.

In the renewal period, in order to meet the requirements of national industrialization and modernization, localities and sectors implemented production emulation movements including “All people unite to build a cultural lifestyle”, “Good farmers in production and trading”, “Young people set up career”, “Paying debt of gratitude”, “For beloved Hoang Sa and Truong Sa”, and “The whole nation work together in new rural development”. Social movements have played an important role in achieving socio-economic targets, national defense, and global integration.

The goal of current patriotic movements

Vietnam has been working toward industrialization and modernization targets and integrating into the global economy to develop a socialist-oriented market economy. Vietnam aims to become an industrial nation by 2020. The largest movement is “Studying President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example in all social aspects, especially in economic development and building a strong and transparent Communist Party”.

There are many movements encouraging scientific and technological innovations and promoting internal strength to contribute to national industrialization and modernization and improve people’s living conditions. A movement has been launched in the educational sector to raise the general level of knowledge. The movements have obtained practical results because they have been applied in all sectors and localities and focused on individuals.
