Vietnam’s achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam during the last 90 years have validated the path to socialism chosen by the Communist Party of Vietnam, President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnamese people. Steadfastly pursuing national development goals in the new period

At each Party Congress, a new vision is created for Vietnam’s growth. Leading the country forward, the Communist Party of Vietnam is mapping out orientations for a new development period based on a review of 35 years of national renewal, 30 years of implementing the 1991 Platform on national development in the transition to socialism, 10 years of implementing the 2011 Platform and its revision, Vision to 2030 when the Communist Party of Vietnam will celebrate its 100th anniversary, and a Vision to 2045 when Vietnam will mark the 100th anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Party leader and President Nguyen Phu Trong summarized the visions in two words “persistence and creativity”. He said the Vietnamese Party, army and people persist in and creatively develop Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, and persist in the goals of national independence and socialism, and the Party’s guideline for developing and safeguarding socialist Vietnam.

Aspirations based on reality

Aspiration is among the key words being repeated at the 13th National Party Congress. For the first time, aspiration was repeatedly mentioned in documents submitted to the Congress. The theme of the Congress is “… rousing the will, aspiration, and great national unity, harnessing the power of the era, and promoting creative innovation and rapid, sustainable development...” Vietnam’s aspirations have come from the reality of three periods of strategic development. In the first period, from 1991 to 2000, the Party led Vietnam out of financial crisis to an annual growth rate of 7.56%. In the second period, Vietnam achieved low-middle income status under the Party’s leadership. In the third period, the Party is leading Vietnam to become a developed country with modern industry. Economically, Vietnam is moving toward rapid, sustainable growth based on new technology, innovation, and digital transformation. The Communist Party of Vietnam mapped out strategic breakthroughs in institutions, infrastructure, and human resources at the 12th Party Congress. These breakthroughs will continue to be exploited in the new period.

Persistence and a need for reform

The Communist Party of Vietnam has always respected recommendations and suggestions for national renewal and development which have paid dividends throughout 35 years of renewal. Reviewing those 35 years and 30 years of implementing the 1991 Platform on national development in the transition to socialism has clarified guidelines on national renewal and the path to socialism. Vietnam has never before enjoyed the status, potential, influence, and international prestige that it has today. They are a source of pride, motivation, and confidence for the Party, the army and the people.

Over the last years, the Party has effectively balanced persistence and innovation, creatively applied Marxism-Leninism, and persisted in its pursuit of renovation, integration and development. At its 13th Congress, the Communist Party of Vietnam will continue to revise its mindset and vision to devise new strategies for growth and achieving the goal of making Vietnam a peaceful, independent, democratic, and prosperous nation.
