Politburo resolution opens up Southeast region’s development prospects

(VOVWORLD) -A national conference held in Hanoi on Saturday discussed how the Politburo’s Resolution 24 on socio-economic development, defense and security of the Southeast region by 2030 with a vision to 2045 will be implemented.  The event was preceded by three national conferences on the Politburo's new resolutions for the Mekong Delta, Northern Midlands and Mountains, and the Central Highlands. This 4th conference, organized by the Politburo and the Secretariat, was aimed at the Southeast region, which comprises Ho Chi Minh City and five provinces of Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

Delivering a speech to the conference, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong explained why at this time the Politburo has to discuss and issue a resolution on socio-economic development, defense and security in the Southeast region.

According to Party leader Trong, the 13th National Party Congress set out the goal that by 2030 Vietnam will be a developing country with modern industry and high-middle income; by 2045, it will be a developed and high-income country. This calls for a new resolution to create a watershed change in socio-economic development, defense, and security in the Southeast region, he said. The Resolution calls for strong, dynamic innovation to turn the Southeast region into a center of economy, finance, trade, education, training, human resources, science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.

"It must become a region of vibrant development, high economic growth rate, the largest growth engine in the country for sci-tech and innovation, high-tech logistics, and international finance, a leader in growth model reform, digital transformation, and building a "digital government", "digital economy", and "digital society, the Resolution states.

It sets forth solutions and tasks, focusing on rapid, sustainable development, fine-tuning institutions and policies, promoting regional linkages, and improving human resources and urban infrastructure. Other solutions cover cultural and social development, improving people's living standards, safeguarding national defense and security, and building and rectifying the local Party and political system.

Local leaders said the Resolution has opened up space and development prospects for the Southeast region. Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, voiced a determination to soon deliver on the set goals and tasks.

“Ho Chi Minh city is developing a specific action plan focused on completing key tasks and creating a foundation for long-term development by restructuring the post-pandemic economy and reforming the growth model reform based on science, technology, and high labor productivity. We are reviewing and developing new services and high-value-added services in line with building an international finance center, a trade and tourism center, a logistics fair, and centers for digital transformation, human resource training, and healthcare,” Mai said.

Pham Viet Thanh, Secretary of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial Party Committee, said: “While promulgating resolutions, the Politburo needs to issue a model working regulation applicable to each region so as to avoid the laxity and formality recently reported. In 2023, it’s important to link human resource training between localities in the Southern key region given the dire need for human resources here. An effort should be made to promote investment and tourism between localities in the Southeast region.”

Party General Secretary Trong urged the Government and central agencies to strengthen coordination with localities to implement Resolution 24, develop the regions, and contribute to Vietnam's renewal.
