Restoration of Hai Van Gate national relic site completed

(VOVWORLD) - The project to preserve, restore, and promote the Hai Van Gate national relic site has been completed after more than three years. Hai Van Gate is one of Vietnam’s most magnificent military fortresses and a majestic mountain pass. It’s the shared heritage of Thua Thien-Hue province and Da Nang city.

Constructed in 1826 at an altitude of 490 meters above sea level, Hai Van Gate is nestled in the Bach Ma-Hai Van mountain range, straddling Lang Co town, Thua Thien-Hue province and Hoa Hiep Bac ward, Da Nang city.

Recognized for its unique architectural and historical significance, Hai Van Gate was designated a national historical and architectural relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in 2017.

Pham Tan Xu, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Da Nang city, said: "This heritage symbolizes national solidarity and the spirit of building and protecting the country. We plan to collaborate with the Hue Monuments Conservation Center to use digital technology to make it easier for visitors to explore."

Thua Thien-Hue province and Da Nang city have investment in 3D technology, free Wi-Fi, and digital transformation to give tourists timely information about the relic site. Logistics and support services are being developed to improve visitors’ experience.

Hoang Viet Trung, Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, said: “We will take turns to manage the relic site. Initially, Thua Thien-Hue province will handle the management and set ticket pricing and these will be done in agreement with the Da Nang People's Council."

Nguyen Thanh Binh, Vice Chairman of the Thua Thien-Hue People's Committee, told VOV: "Both localities will keep restoring and preserving the relic to honor its historical significance. This effort will establish Hai Van Gate as a major tourist attraction, fostering socio-economic development and symbolizing the strong cooperation between the two localities."

The restoration of Hai Van Gate promises to elevate tourism in Vietnam's central region. As an essential stop along the "Central Heritage Road," the site is poised to become a major draw for both domestic and foreign visitors, contributing to the region's cultural and economic vibrancy.
