Vietnam has celebrated World Environment Day since 1982. This year, the government organized a meeting to celebrate World Environment Day in Quang Ninh province. “Only One Earth”, the theme of this year’s activities was also the message of the UN’s first conference on the environment held 50 years ago in Stockholm calling for joint global efforts to protect our planet.

In response to World Environment Day, movements to clean the environment, plant trees, and collect garbage have been launched and awards will be presented. A cycling parade and a cycling competition will highlight the occasion.

During Action Month for the Environment, activities will be organized to disseminate information and mobilize the public to develop a sustainable way of living in harmony with nature, conserve national resources,  protect biodiversity, and cope with climate change through policies and activities aimed at a greener, cleaner lifestyle.

Tran Hong Ha, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, says: "Vietnam’s guidelines and political commitment for environmental protection have been enacted into law. The 2020 Law on Environmental Protection which came into force on January 1, 2022 contains policies and solutions designed to effect drastic changes in environmental protection, improve environment quality, preserve ecological balance, protect biodiversity and ensure sustainable economic development. Businesses and the public will have the central role in this effort."

The government has called on the public to protect their planet by sorting waste at the source, using clean, renewable energy, reducing the use of plastic, and prioritizing the use of recycled products.

Vietnam is restructuring its economy to be more digital, green, and circular to protect the environment and public health and realize the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
