Vietnam and Laos share a border and rivers and have developed a special relationship during their national construction and defense. The two countries held a series of activities this year to mark the 55th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties and 40 years of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

Successful Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year

The two countries have achieved profound and comprehensive accomplishments, which are invaluable assets contributing to each country’s development. During the Friendship and Solidarity Year, activities have been held to educate the younger generation about history of the Vietnam-Laos relationship and encourage people of both countries to continue enhancing bilateral ties. Ta Minh Chau, Vice President of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association, says: “Vietnam and Laos organized grand meetings to mark the event while organizations carried out diverse activities. At these events, the two sides reviewed cooperative results over the past 55 years and generated momentum for future cooperation.”

Forever friendship

Under the leadership of the two parties, Vietnamese and Laotians have stood side by side in struggles for national liberation and in unification and development.

As members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Vietnam and Laos should continue to work together for ASEAN solidarity, prosperity, and stability and said Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong: “In the face of regional and global changes, the two countries have found opportunities and new challenges. The history of Vietnam-Laos relations and guidelines and cooperative contents of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation will forever maintain their values, guiding the relations of the two Parties, States, and peoples. Despite difficulties, we promise to protect the Vietnam-Laos relationship forever.”

The visit of President Vorachith has once again affirmed the solidarity, trust, and consistency between the two Parties, States, and peoples and their comprehensive support for each other’s reform, defense, and construction.
