(VOVWORLD) - Firefighting robots and multi-purpose firefighting and rescue motorcycles, developed the Ministry of Public Security, were showcased at the recent Vietnam Defense Expo 2024. These pieces of equipment have been piloted in various locations, including Hanoi, Nam Dinh, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hoi An.

The Firefighting Robot 114 weighs 500 kilograms and measures 1.6 meters in length, 68 centimeters in height, and 79 centimeters in width. It recently participated in a firefighting drill at Linh Dam residential buildings in Hanoi.
Lieutenant Colonel Tran Kim Khanh at theUniversity of Fire Prevention and Fighting, the developer of the robot, explained that in addition to its primary function of spraying water to extinguish fires, the robot is equipped with hydraulic arms to handle hazardous scenarios involving toxic chemicals.
It features flexible chain wheels to navigate complex terrain and carry fire hoses to areas inaccessible to firefighters, said Khanh. “The robot is equipped with an information system connected to the control center, along with cameras at various angles. It can assist in firefighting, communicate with victims trapped inside, and even carry victims to safety. The robot transports hoses from fire trucks or external pumps to the fire scene. It is constructed from fire-resistant materials and features a water-cooled system for self-protection.”

The University of Fire Prevention and Fighting also introduced a multi-purpose firefighting and rescue motorcycle at the exhibition.
While the firefighting robot is ideal for combating fires in industrial buildings, which often release chemicals, dust, and hazardous smoke, the firefighting motorcycle is particularly suited to narrow alleys and lanes in residential areas where fire trucks cannot access.
The motorcycle is highly mobile and requires only one operator. It can transport a hose, spray water, and locate victims in alleys as narrow as 1.2 meters and up to 50 meters from a fire truck or water source.
Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Huu Quynh of the University of Fire Prevention and Fighting explained: “The vehicle is equipped with a multi-purpose pump system. It can navigate narrow lanes, detach from the fire truck, and connect to household water sources to perform firefighting tasks before the professional firefighting force arrives. The motorcycle also features a firefighting and rescue system capable of breaking down gates and fences, as well as a lighting system for use during blackouts.”
Vietnam-made firefighting and rescue equipment offer high efficiency at lower costs compared to imported products, according to the University of Fire Prevention and Fighting.
