(VOVworld) – The General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army celebrated its 70^th anniversary on Monday. Attending the event was President Truong Tan Sang, former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu, former President Tran Duc Luong, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, NA Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, and leaders of ministries and localities.

President Truong Tan Sang conferred the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army with the Military Exploit Order, 1st class.

President Truong Tan Sang asked the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army to fulfill its tasks of consulting to the Central Military Commission and the Defense Ministry and building professional, elite armed forces. President Sang said: “It’s important to closely follow the situation, analyze, and foresee future developments and hostile forces’ activities, make recommendations to the Party and State in order to devise the correct policies. The General Staff should improve its fighting tactics to counter all reactionary plots to protect national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and socialism.”

President Sang asked the General Staff to improve the quality of its staff to be firm in political awareness, loyal to the nation, people, Party, and State and proficient in advanced military technology.

He presented the Military Exploit Order, 1^st class, to the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army.
