Activities commemorate Russia’s Stalingrad victory

(VOV) -  An array of activities to mark the 70th anniversary of the Stalingrad victory has been held across Russia. In Moscow, the Kremlin Palace welcomed 300 war veterans who took part in the historic Stalingrad battle, and representatives of military and patriotic organizations. The War History Museum in St. Petersburg exhibited the Adler typewriter which printed Hitler’s formal surrender. Meanwhile, Volgograd city hosted a conference on the historic importance of the Stalingrad victory.

The battle of Stalingrad lasted 200 days and nights, the longest and bloodiest battle with the most casualties in World War II. Nearly 1.2 million Soviet soldiers died preventing the German troops from crossing the Volga River. The Stalingrad victory was a highlight of Russian and world history. It turned the tide of WW2.
