Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc wrote an article underlining the importance of amnesty.

Mr. Phuc, who is also chairman of the Central Advisory Council on Amnesty, wrote that amnesty bolsters people’s trust in the Party and state’s lenient and humane policy.

Economically, granting early release reduces state spending and budget pressures on prisons.

Politically, publicizing amnesty to domestic and foreign media and allowing international human rights organizations to visit Vietnamese prisons demonstrates Vietnam’s policy of leniency to lawbreakers.

Recognized domestically and internationally, Vietnam’s humane amnesty contradicts false claims by hostile forces who want to slander Vietnam with alleged violations of human rights.

Deputy PM Phuc said Vietnam’s amnesty for 2015 will be carried out in strict accordance with the law in a democratic, transparent, and public manner.
