There will be 22 photography exhibitions, all free-entry, and 29 side events such as art tours, roundtable discussions, workshops, book launches, and film screenings.
Nguyen The Son, head of Art Photography at the School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts and Biennale Photo Hanoi’ 25’s curator, said: “This year, there are 20-30% more exhibitions and nearly double the number of international artists compared to the previous edition of the event, which demonstrates their great interest in the event. We learned from other photography festivals and tried to connect the art of photography with Hanoi’s heritages. This year, there will be a lot of outdoor spaces for community engagement activities.”
A Biennale is an Italian term for art events that are held every two years. It is commonly used to describe major art exhibitions around the world. International biennale Photo Hanoi was initiated by the French Institute in Vietnam in 2021.
This year’s edition was co-organized by the French Institute in Vietnam and the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sport and will take place across more than 20 cultural venues in Hanoi. The event is expected to make Hanoi a creative hub for photography in Asia and attract visual art lovers in Vietnam and abroad.
