(VOVworld) - The Central Steering Board for Flood and Storm Prevention held an emergency meeting yesterday/on Wednesday to update information on approaching tropical storm Gaemi and prepare response measures. Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai urged provincial authorities to warn people to prepare for the storm and instruct offshore fishermen to leave dangerous areas and safely anchor their vessels in more sheltered areas.

Gaemi is forecast to hit Vietnam’s central region tomorrow. 28,000 fishing vessels have been informed about the storm’s latest development and expected path. Binh Dinh province is reinforcing its dams and reservoirs. Director Phan Trong Ho of the Binh Dinh Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: ‘We have to double check all critical embankments and reservoirs. All reservoirs have been drained in preparation for Gaemi and will save up water for crops later’.

National Assembly deputies from Quang Nam province made an on-site inspection of reservoirs and asked irrigation works’ investors to work closely with local administrations to strengthen dam management.
