Responding to media questions that US President had earlier hinted that his trip to China could be put on hold if Chinese President Xi Jin Ping does not help escort ships through the strait of Hormuz, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said: “Head-of-state diplomacy plays an irreplaceable strategic guiding role in China–US relations. The two sides are maintaining communication regarding President Trump’s state visit to China.”
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Mr. Lin said China calls on all parties to immediately cease military actions, prevent further escalation of tensions, and stop regional turbulence from inflicting greater damage on global economic development.
Earlier the White House said that President Trump is expected to visit China from March 31 to April 2 and hold a summit with President Xi Jinping.
